Restaurants

La Tupina (00 33 556 91 56 37) in Bordeaux, enthusiastically written up by Fay Maschler who calls it "essentially a perfect restaurant."

In St Emilion - designated as a World Heritage Town, Francis Goullée's Le Restaurant (0033 557 24 70 49), Le Tertre (0033 557 74 46 33) under new management, Le Clos du Roy (0033 557744155) where just to read the long and extensive menu is a feast, to the bistrot l'Envers du Décor (0033 557 74 48 31) where you may sample many different wines by the glass and where "English is spoken with a French accent".

In Bouliac, with a superb view over Bordeaux, Jean-Marie Amat's Le Saint-James, (0033 557 97 06 00) or its Brasserie The Bistroy next door (0033 557 97 06 06), or the charming Café de l'Espérance over the road (0033 556 20 52 16)

Sporting Activities

Bicycle Track for bikes, rollers blades etc. 85 kms of paved bicycle track in the area - with the music bar at the station of Espiet just a short ride away.

There is also a Skate Park in Bordeaux and some riding stables 3 km away

Dune du Pyla
The highest sand dune in Europe and a challenge even for the fit.
